Architecture of Recovery - Community First in Crisis Response and Rebuilding

In the face of war, climate crisis, displacement, and natural disasters, communities are too often left to wait for top-down solutions. But they don’t wait they adapt and act. This 3-day international online gathering reimagines recovery from the ground up.

Rooted in the award-winning “Port Pop-Ups for Reviving Gaza” proposal (UMAR Summer Workshop 2024), this event centers grassroots urbanism, informal knowledge, and community participation in crisis recovery.

Event Goals

  • Promote bottom-up approaches to recovery
  • Share tools and strategies for working with, not for, communities
  • Showcase global stories of grassroots rebuilding
  • Build a platform for collaboration, reflection, and actions
